Elmer Esteban Edmundo Bitters Goes to Battle Against His Critters!
Make toothbrushing an adventure!
Let’s take a look into the making of this book!
-
The inspiration for this children’s book came from my brother’s 2017 Honduras Medical Missionary Trip with North Texas missions. When Jai saw all the families walk miles to receive dental care and children as young as four crying as their rotten teeth were pulled broke his heart, but the smiles on their faces and the gratitude in their hearts opened his eyes. The children politely asked for things we take for granted--toothbrushes, shampoo, and food. Since among other things they were bringing toothpaste and toothbrushes that year, Jai thought it would be fun to write a witty educational book to teach these children how to properly take care of their teeth to avoid future toothaches and missing teeth!
Jai dedicated this book to one special child he met during his time in Honduras--a nine-year-old boy named Elmer. He grabbed his attention because of his sunbeam smile and words of wisdom. My brother later discovered that he lived by himself with a neighbor while his mother worked in another city to make ends meet. However, he showed Jai the definition of contentment. It touched Jai’s heart when he asked Elmer what he wanted to be later in life. Elmer replied, “I do not know, but God does.” Indeed God does, and I am thankful God gave me and Jai the opportunity to serve his new friends in an imaginative way.
